Abstract:
Our previous publication reveals that mouse model of repetitive closed-skull TBI (rcTBI) induces axonal varicosities, characterized as boutons formed along the length of individual axons. In this study, we used Closed-Head Impact Model of Engineered Rotational Acceleration (CHIMERA), a novel model for mild TBI on B6 mice. We found CHIMERA also induces varicosities, but in areas such as corpus callosum, external capsule and cortex layer 4-6, which is different from rcTBI. Behavior assays also revealed impaired short-term memory and impaired motor functions and changes in anxiety, suggesting a correlative relationship.
